HIIT vs Walking
By Daniel Reeves · 6 min read · Updated July 2026
High-intensity interval training is time-efficient and improves cardiovascular fitness quickly, but it is fatiguing and competes with recovery from resistance training.
Walking is low-cost in recovery terms, easy to accumulate daily, and rarely interferes with lifting performance. For a dieting lifter, that is a meaningful advantage.
A reasonable default is a daily step target as your baseline, plus one or two short conditioning sessions per week placed away from your heaviest lifting days.
The best cardio is the kind you will actually repeat for months without dreading it.
