Green Tea Extract Guide
By Daniel Reeves · 6 min read · Updated July 2026
Green tea extract is standardised for catechins, primarily EGCG. It is one of the most common inclusions in thermogenic formulas, largely because of a body of research on energy expenditure and fat oxidation.
Reviews report modest average effects on body weight over multi-month periods, with substantial variation between individuals and populations. Effects appear larger in some study groups than others, and results have not been uniform across trials.
When reading a label, look for the standardisation percentage rather than just the total extract weight. Two products listing the same milligrams can deliver very different catechin amounts.
Very high concentrated doses have been associated with liver stress in rare case reports, so stay within label guidance and avoid stacking several concentrated extracts at once.
